SANReN Cyber Security Challenge 2024 – Final
The South African National Research Network (SANReN) team hosted its eighth Cyber Security Challenge (CSC) competition during the Centre for High Performance Computing (CHPC) National Conference at the Boardwalk International Convention Centre, Gqeberha, Eastern Cape from 1 to 4 December 2024. The competition is aimed at students from Southern African tertiary education institutions with a passion for and interest in cybersecurity. The purpose of the CSC competition is to grow the next generation of cybersecurity specialists.
- Qualification round: There were 652 students, comprising 183 teams that competed for a place in the final round.
- Final round: 10 teams were invited to participate in the final round. The 10 teams, comprising 36 students, competed over the course of the four-day event.
The following top 10 teams were invited to participate in the CSC 2024 finals based on their performance during the qualification round:

- ByteMe – University of Witwatersrand – Engineering
The competition came to a successful conclusion on the 4th of December 2024, and the winning teams were announced during the Awards Ceremony hosted at Boardwalk International Convention Centre, Gqeberha.
The CSC 2024 winners were:
- First Place: I LAK LINUX – University of Pretoria
- Second place: D3CYPH3R5 – University of Cape Town (Engineering)
- Third Place: University of Witwatersrand (WITS) – Engineering
