TCCP Service Provider awards: Access Network Circuits

The South African Broadband Education Networks (SABEN) is pleased to announce that the TVET Colleges Connection Programme (TCCP) has reached a significant milestone.

The Request for Proposals (RfP) process for Access Network Circuits Connecting TVET College Campuses to the South African National Research Network (SANReN) has been concluded and the following successful service providers have been awarded purchase orders:

  • Dark Fibre Africa (DFA)
  • LinkAfrica
  • Liquid Telecom
  • MTN
  • Openserve

SABEN RFQ: TCCP Client Premises Equipment – closed

The “TVET Colleges Connection Project (TCCP)” is an ICT infrastructure initiative by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) funded through a National Skills Fund (NSF) grant to connect Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College campuses to the South African National Research Network (SANReN). The purpose of this project is to solve bandwidth poverty at South Africa’s TVET Colleges by connecting them to the SANReN, thereby enabling them to contribute to meeting the goals of the developmental state.

Interested companies with relevant proven capabilities are invited to submit in response to this Request for Quotation, for the delivery of Client Premises Equipment that will be used in Connecting Technical and Vocational Education and Training College Campuses to the South African National Research Network as specified in this document.

The RFQ for the Client Premises Equipment can be accessed on the SABEN website.

Closing date for submission is: 26 August 2019 at 15h00.

SANReN Network Security Grant Call 2019 – closed

SANReN herewith requests proposals from South African public universities to host a grant programme that is designed to assist post-graduate students performing research in the fields of network security. This grant programme is aimed at:

  • supporting applied research in the field of network security, with a specific focus on the application thereof in the NREN domain; and
  • developing a pipeline of graduates skilled and capable in network security

Funding will be awarded to the university that is deemed to be most capable of leading Masters and PhD level graduate students, as well as post-doctoral researchers in the field of network security.

SANReN National Backbone Upgrade Tender – closed

The National Backbone infrastructure of the South African National Research Network (SANReN), a major research and education infrastructure is being upgraded from a managed bandwidth network to a dark fibre-optic network to allow SANReN to transmit multiple wavelengths of a bitrate of at least 100 Gbps.

CSIR Request for Proposal: 3044/23/09/2016 for the SANReN National Backbone Upgrade has been published on the National Treasury website.
